I design and build custom WordPress websites for businesses across the USA, from full website projects to redesigns, migrations and ongoing support. Every project is a fixed fee agreed before work starts.

I work with marketing teams and business owners who need a WordPress website that performs, not just one that looks good. That means a custom-built theme rather than a marketplace template, structured so your team can edit pages in-house without a developer on standby. I lead the design and development end to end, so there is one accountable person from first call to launch. Every project is a fixed fee agreed upfront, with three revision rounds and 30 days of post-launch support included.

Most WordPress sites fail for the same reason: they are built on a stack of plugins and a marketplace theme nobody can maintain. I build custom themes with clean, lightweight code, so the site loads fast, survives updates, and stays editable by your team years after launch. Companies come to me when their current site no longer reflects the business, when their team cannot update it without a developer, or when it simply is not generating the enquiries it should. I also work as a white label WordPress developer for agencies who need build capability they do not have in-house.

Here's the process which I follow when designing brand new WordPress websites or working on re-design projects
01. Discovery Call
We start with a call to understand the business, the audience, and what the website actually needs to achieve. I ask how you sell, who you sell to, what is working on your current site and what is not. Everything that follows is shaped by that conversation.
02. Fixed Price Proposal
I turn the discovery call into a written proposal covering objectives, sitemap, page count, deliverables, timeline and the fixed price. That price does not move unless you change the scope, and payments are tied to milestones rather than hours. Once you approve it, you know exactly what the project will cost before any work begins.
03. Design Concept
I design in Figma, starting with the homepage so we agree the visual direction before the rest follows. You see real layouts rather than moodboards: typography, color, spacing, components and how pages behave. Three revision rounds are included, and nothing moves into build until you have signed off the designs.
04. WordPress CMS Build
With designs approved I build a custom WordPress theme to match. No page builders and no marketplace themes, which is what keeps the site fast and maintainable years later. The build covers responsive behavior across devices, page speed, technical SEO and accessibility, with reusable blocks so your team can add and edit pages without touching code.
Testing and Launch
Before launch I test across browsers and devices, check page speed and accessibility, and set up redirects so existing search rankings carry across. You get a CMS walkthrough and handover documentation, then we go live on an agreed date.
05. Ongoing Support
Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support as standard, covering fixes and adjustments once the site is live. After that, most clients continue on a monthly care plan for updates, new pages and improvements, with 30 days notice to cancel at any time.
A fresh, modern design not only reflects your brand’s commitment to innovation but also enhances user experience, ensuring your site is accessible, engaging, and aligned with the latest user expectations. Keeping up with design trends helps your site perform better in search engines, adapt to new technologies, and meet the ever-changing standards of web functionality.
Has been a pleasure working with Mike. He did a fantastic job combining high-quality design with strong front end development (which I understand is rare), and has nicely balanced meeting our (detailed and frequent) requests with ideas of his own. Would strongly recommend him to anyone wanting to work with him.

Mike was extremely creative and did a very thorough job of understanding our product and market before building a website that matched our needs and mission. He was very flexible with changes that came up throughout the process and does an awesome job of creating web animations (pulsing nodes, moving components, etc.) that added vibrancy to the website. All in all, very creative, patient, and great execution!

Mike is a talented developer and designer that went above and beyond for our recent website project. He’s very easy to work with and always came up with solutions – nothing was too hard for him. I can’t recommend him enough!

Mike did a great job on our HubSpot site. He worked to a tight schedule, interpreted the design brief we gave him really well and came up with a compelling design. He then delivered the finished product to schedule, working quickly to make any requested amends and add/change functionality. Really impressive work and Mike would certainly be my first choice for any similar work in the future.

It was a pleasure to work with Mike on our music conference website. He went beyond what we needed him to do in order to create a beautiful new website which meets all our needs. We would definitely work with him on future projects.

Mike delivered exceptionally high-quality work. The design conveys the brand message and there were very few errors in the final platform. Despite several challenges outside their control, Mike was able to deliver within the condensed timeline.

Most common questions my clients ask
What WordPress services do you offer?
Everything from a full website build to ongoing support once the site is live. That covers new website design and development, redesigns of existing sites, Figma to WordPress builds, migrations from platforms like Wix, and new features added to an existing site. I also work as a white label WordPress developer for agencies. After launch, I handle maintenance, plugin and core updates, server migrations, security and accessibility, either on a monthly plan or as needed.
How much do you charge?
It depends on the type of work. New websites and redesigns are quoted as a fixed fee after a discovery call, so you know the full cost before anything starts and payments are tied to milestones. For smaller or less predictable work, my hourly rate is $75, and you can buy prepaid blocks of hours to use over 12 months. Ongoing support starts at $750 per month for 10 hours, with 30 days notice to cancel.
How long does a WordPress redesign project take?
Most projects run 6 to 12 weeks from kickoff to launch. A focused build with a defined page count sits at the shorter end; a redesign with multiple stakeholders and content restructuring sits at the longer end. You get a timeline with milestone dates in the proposal, and payments are tied to those milestones rather than to hours worked.
Do you use themes or page builders?
No. Marketplace themes and page builders are the reason so many WordPress sites become slow and fragile within a year or two. I build a custom theme designed around your content, with clean, lightweight code and no plugin sprawl. The result loads faster, survives WordPress updates, and stays maintainable long after launch.
Will my team be able to update the site ourselves?
Yes, and this is a large part of what you are paying for. Pages are built with reusable blocks your team can rearrange and edit without touching code or breaking layouts. Every project ends with a training session and handover documentation.
Can you redesign our site without losing our search rankings?
Yes, and this is planned before anything moves. URL structure, redirects, metadata and page hierarchy are mapped as part of the project, so existing rankings carry across to the new site rather than being rebuilt from scratch. Technical SEO is included in every build, not sold as an extra.
Why work with an independent consultant instead of an agency?
With an agency you get a team, and usually an account manager between you and the people doing the work. With me, the person you speak with on the first call is the person designing your site and directing the build. Fewer handoffs, faster decisions, and no layer of project management in your budget.
What happens if I need changes after launch?
Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support as standard, covering fixes and adjustments after go-live. Beyond that, most clients continue on a monthly care plan, or buy prepaid blocks of hours to use as they need them. You own the site and the hosting account throughout, and there is no lock-in either way.
How do we communicate during the project?
Async by default, using a shared project board where every task, question and approval is written down and visible. Scheduled calls at key milestones, and I aim to respond to messages the same working day. This is deliberate: documented communication is what keeps fixed-fee projects on scope and on schedule, and it means nothing important lives only in someone’s memory of a call.
Do you work with existing websites?
Yes, and a large share of my work is on sites I didn’t build. I start by reviewing the theme, plugins and hosting setup so we both know what we’re working with before any changes are made. From there, you can choose how to work together. Ongoing monthly support suits teams with a steady flow of work, such as new pages, design updates and new features, and starts at $750 per month for 10 hours, with 30 days notice to cancel. If your needs are more occasional, you can buy a prepaid block of hours at $75 per hour and use them whenever you need over 12 months.
